China will cancel the long distance & roaming charges, substantially reduce the dedicated Internet access tariffs for SMEs and underprice the International long-distance calls in 2017, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said at the fifth meeting of the National People's Congress.
Xi Guohua, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and former chairman of China Mobile, stated at the meeting that he will advocate cancelling domestic long-distance & roaming charges, which will drive consumption, increase employment and promote the economy, though bringing the operators less profit.
China's three telecom giants announced to cancel the domestic long-distance and roaming charges for mobile users since October 2017, which has a long history in China.
