In December 2016, the mobile phone shipments in China reached 63.164 million with a year-on-year increase of 11.8% and 126 new models went on sale, up 5%, according to the Operating Report on China's Handset Market in December 2016 released by CATR (China Academy of Telecommunication Research).
Through 2016, China shipped 560 million handsets in the domestic market, 8% from a year earlier, and 1446 new models were released, which declined by 3.3%.
The shipments of 4G handsets increased 20.1% to 60.363 million with 107 new models in December 2016 and rose 18% to 519 million with 1239 new models in the whole year.
Increasing by 16.7%, China's domestic-brand handset shipments hit 56.005 million and accounted for 88.7% of the total in China in December 2016.
In 2016, the homegrown mobile phone shipments grew 16.1% to 498 million, of which the share hit 88.9% of the shipped handsets in China in the same period, and there were 1381 new models coming out with a 2.5% decrease.
