China SDN/NFV Conference 2016 was held on April 13th. Duan Xiaodong, director of the department of network technology at China Mobile Research Institute said at the conference that China Mobile will advance NFV technologies in the following three aspects considering the new network developing in large-scale and new simplified future-oriented architecture.
Duan Xiaodong pointed out the rapid deployment and upgrade which is one of the characteristics of NFV is good for large-scale development of new VoLTE network. He suggested driving the adoption of virtualization technologies in VoLTE networks, focusing on S-CSCF, AS and other signaling plane network elements, exploring the feasibility of virtualization in SBC media side and considering whether to virtualize all the IMS network elements.
IoT dedicated
NFV's flexible expansion capability can help China Mobile provide diverse IoT services. Specialized EPC can virtualize IoT network platform, which can meet the needs of rapid IoE deployment and flexible application. According to Duan Xiaodong, China Mobile considers mainly about accelerating the IoT HSS virtualization due to the higher requirements of customization of IoT user data.
Fixed access
Duan Xiaodong said China Mobile aims to develop fixed networks in a higher starting point and promote the cost efficiency by taking advantages of the NFV architecture. Mainly deploying S-CPE and BRAS with NFV technologies is beneficial to promoting fixed access networks in a higher starting point and meets the demands of rapid upgrade, automatic open and flexible capacity open of fixed access.
