State Council requires Internet map servers should be located in China

According to the report of Voice of China, Premier Li Keqiang has signed Order No. 664 of the State Council and published the “Map Management Regulations”, which will come into force on January 1st, 2016. The regulations have clearly pointed out that Internet map servers should be located in China.

In recent years, with the development of sciences and technologies, the maps are no longer limited to papers, but in the form of mobile maps, 3D maps and other styles. However, the current “Map Management Regulations” is made 20 years ago, which needs urgent remedy in the industry management. Li Weibing, deputy director of Regulations and Industry Management Department of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation, said that revision of regulations can promote the development of geographic information, the orderly development of geographic information industry can provide a good foundation for the orderly development of the whole society. Strengthening the management on maps is conducive to safeguarding our national sovereignty, security and interests.
