On June 16th, the director of China Telecom Technology Commission Wei Leping said at the China Optical Network seminar, the average speed of broadband has reached 5.1Mb/s in China and ranked in the 58th place in the world, but not the 3.4Mb/s at 82th place that Akamai released.
In this regard, Wei Leping said that the broadband speed published by foreign agencies cannot represent the real network speed in China. Since the foreign agencies only test the export rate of the broadband, however, due to the lack of international Internet interfaces in China and non-technical reasons, the export rates of China’s international broadband are much lower than the domestic speed.
Broadband Forum has chosen 100,000 samples for tests in last year, the results showed that the average speed of broadband was 5.1Mb/s in China, ranking in the 58th place in the world.
In addition, for the query that broadband tariffs are too high in China, he said that the tariff packages that Chinese operators provide are not as high as the media said, in fact, the absolute price of broadband tariff is only about 40 yuan in China, which means China is in the list of low broadband tariff countries, but the prices are still high in large cities, which is about 46 yuan.
When talking about the reasons that data showed telecom tariff were so expensive in China, Wei Leping explained, when United Nations did researches in the global, they chose the tariff of the largest city of the largest operator in this country. As we all know, the tariff that China Mobile introduced in Beijing is undoubtedly the most expensive in domestic, if this price is selected, it certainly would lead to the high ranking place of China's telecom tariff.
However, Wei Leping also admitted that although we have made multiple progress in the broadband development in China, there are still many aspects that need for improvement, and there is place for further improvement of the access rates and the prices.
