Updated:2015/2/6 09:52

Rumor said recently that Lenovo will likely offer a comprehensive acquisition of the chip design company Marvell by $19 per share, involving about $10 billion in total. As the second largest smartphone LTE chip supplier in the world, it’s the second time that Marvell gets involved in acquisition rumors in a year.

In a recent news conference, vice president of Marvell Ding Bin made a formal response to C114. "I have never heard about this inside the company. So far, all the rumors about Marvell are just rumors". Ding Bin said, "Marvell made perfect performance in the LTE field last year and our annual LTE chip shipments were over 20 million units, ranking in the second place in the world. In this year, Marvell mobile business will continue to maintain sustainable development, in the first half of this year, together with the industry chain, we will cooperate with China Mobile to make the prices of five-model mobile phones decline to under CNY 400."

Ding Bin emphasized on the strength of Marvell mobile business. In 2014, Marvell was one of the main promoters of China’s TD-LTE, and its market share was in the top two, 3 models of TOP5 TD-LTE mobile phones used Marvell’s solution. In the China Mobile Global Partner Conference 2014 that was held in December last year, Marvell was highly evaluated by China Mobile CEO Li Yue. The Modem products of Marvell are not only popular in China market, but also have passed tests or are available in American, Japan, Europe and emerging markets, this makes Marvell one of the two giant chip vendors with world coverage.
