Updated:2015/1/30 10:28

According to the insiders of telecom operators, China Telecom and China Unicom plan to expand FDD-LTE trial network in more cities in the first half of this year, which strives to exceed 100 cities on the basis of current 56 ones.

This move aims to achieve a scale of commercial cities as soon as possible, which will force the MIIT to issue FDD LTE licenses at its best speed. According to the source, if everything goes well, the MIIT is expected to issue FDD-LTE licenses around the World Telecommunications Day on 17th of May.

Previously, the Minister of MIIT Miao Wei has made it clear that the it won’t study on the issuance of the second FDD-LTE license until conditions are mature in 2015, at the same time, it would also speed up the TD-LTE network construction and development of potential subscribers, so as to stimulate growth in user scale and strive to break through the 250 million mark of subscribers.

Several industry experts have told Tencent Tech that FDD-LTE licenses will be settled down in this year, at that time, the only barricade of China Telecom and China Unicom in the 4G market will disappear.

At the same time, the Tower Company with shared base station site resources was also slowly on track, China Unicom and China Telecom will probably utilize the millions of base stations freely that took China Mobile a year to build, which will make up for the previous disadvantage.

Relevant personnel of the Tower Company said that nationwide tower resources integration work has started at present, the time and other costs of telecom operators would be saved more deeply in the future.
