China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said at a meeting recently, the current needs of users for data services is exploding, and no matter how many network updates China Mobile did still can not meet the demands, therefore, TD-LTE network was necessary to be deployed ahead of schedule.
Wang Jianzhou said that with the popularity of smart phones, the biggest problem now is that there is explosive growth of data services, which is a huge opportunity for the telecommunications industry and a great challenge, because no matter operators update the existing networks from time to time, still can not meet demand of data services. Right now, the data service growth rate is not 20%, 30%, but 300%, 500%, 600%.
Earlier, China Mobile has a large-scale TD-LTE testing between the Shanghai World Expo and Guangzhou Asian Games, so the industry has a great expectation on the future of TD-LTE.
Back in October 2010, China Mobile revealed the deployment scale of pre-commercial TD-LTE network , China Mobile will build 3060 TD-LTE base stations in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Xiamen city, each city has 500 base stations. Among them, the outdoor section will use 1.9GHz frequency band, upgraded the existing TD-SCDMA to TD-LTE, add about 2,500 TD-LTE new base stations of 8-channel / 2.6GHz; add about 500 TD-LTE base stations of 2-channel 2.3GHz in the indoor section.
Wang Jianzhou said the TD-LTE experience in Shanghai World Expo has shown that the system products runs properly, but terminal is a big problem. In his view, There are two major problems need to be resolved, reducing the innovation cost of chip and terminal price. He proposed, the terminal of LTE has a limitation, at prevent just data cards, manufacturers need to promote R&D activities. ( By Rosa Zhang )
