In cooperation with 14 overseas and domestic mobile phone makers, China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL) showed 25 models of TD-CMMB cellphones, namely TD-SCDMA mobile phones compatible with the China mobile multimedia broadcasting (CBBM) function, on March 22, 2010.
The mobile phone makers included Dopod, Samsung, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., ZTE Corporation (SEHK: 0763 and SZSE: 000063), Motorola, Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology Ltd., LG, Qingdao Haier Co., Ltd. (SHSE: 600690), Hisense, Sharp, Gionee, as well as Kong Profit.
There will be 67 kinds of mobile phone terminals supporting the CMMB service within this year, forecasted China Mobile.
Some of the products are backed up by the telecom carrier's incentive R&D fund, disclosed a person in the know.
China Mobile, the biggest telecom carrier in the world in terms of subscriber base, plans CNY 30 billion for mobile phone subsidy this year in an attempt to further push its user number growth.
