An analyst at China International Capital Corporation Limited (CICC) says in a report that China-oriented iPhone mobile phones supporting Wi-Fi function will probably be launched in March or April 2010, according to the domestic media.
In late 2009 and early 2010, China Unicom was said in contact with related companies and regulators in a bid to make China-oriented iPhone mobile phones be compatible with the Wi-Fi and homegrown WAPI standards.
Months ago, the telecom carrier inked agreements with Apple Inc. (AAPL) on the introduction of the sparkling iPhones into the Mainland China. Due to various reasons, the first array of iPhones available in the Chinese market does not support the Wi-Fi function.
More than 100,000 iPhones had been sold in the mainland since the product was first introduced on October 30, 2009, China Unicom announced in late January 2010. The China Unicom-version iPhone is embedded with a series of WCDMA telecom services like information, TV, music, and reading to come up with the diversifying demand from users across the country.
