Motorola Announces Frame Agreement with China Mobile
Updated:2009/5/14 17:35
Motorola, Inc., a leading provider of mobile telecommunication equipment, services and handsets, announced on Wednesday that it had signed a one-year frame agreement with China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC) to deliver mobile solutions to the carrier. According to the deal, sealed on April 27, 2009 in Washington, D.C., the shipment and service value is of around $310 million. In addition, the company says, the partnership is meant to reinforce Motorola's position as a GSM supply partner for China Mobile. The agreement states that Motorola is to provide China Mobile with GSM/GPRS/EDGE infrastructure and related services, so as to meet the carrier's growth needs in a series of markets in which Motorola serves radio infrastructure equipment. China Mobile will use Motorola's products and solutions to deliver efficient voice and data capacity, as well as interaction between GSM and TD-SCDMA networks. The new announcement adds to the long history of cooperation between China Mobile and Motorola, the company says. “Motorola has worked with China Mobile for more than 20 years,” said Dr. Mohammad Akhtar, vice president and general manager, Home and Networks Mobility, Motorola China. “As a long-term strategic partner of China Mobile, Motorola is proud to continue being a part of its growth. Motorola has always been an innovator and pioneer in the mobile telecommunications industry. With the comprehensive end-to-end portfolio that covers 2G, 3G and LTE, Motorola stands ready to support China Mobile in building a state-of-the-art network that maximizes investments and delivers the most appealing communications experiences to its end users at home and on-the-go.” Given the fact that China Mobile is trying to deploy the best-in-class interoperability between its 2G and 3G networks, one of the most important aspects for the carrier is to make the GSM and TD-SCDMA networks work together. Motorola, a global leading provider of GSM solutions, will continue to offer network deployment and optimization services in China, and, due to the fact that it already knows the market in the country, it should be able to deliver 2G/3G solutions to enable China Mobile to enhance its subscriber base.
