At the "China Mobile TD-SCDMA Industrial Chain Conference" held recently, Wang Jianzhou, president of China Mobile, announced its TD-SCDMA nationwide networking outline: by 2011, the TD network will cover the commercial hot areas of 95% of prefecture-level cities, with 145,000 planned base stations.
Wang revealed the results of the TD-SCDMA trial run over the past eight months.
By December 3, China Mobile had already put 17,672 base stations in operation, creating a network that covers 9.5 million users.
On April 1, China Mobile launched the trial commercial use and social test program in 10 Chinese cities including Beijing, and decided to expand the network to 28 first-tier cities for the summer of next year.
Wang said that the first phase of TD-SCDMA network engineering was very difficult and the number of base stations that were built in over a year is equivalent to the total number of base stations built over the past 13 years in these cities.
By December 5, China Mobile had a total of 337,000 TD subscribers. Of which, 154,000 clients were recruited for the social business test program, 105,000 are Olympic service clients, and 78,000 clients are participants in the commercial use trial.
However, few consumers have paid for their own TD terminals, although the sales of TD data cards have been considerably good.
According to sources, China Mobile sold a total of 72,000 TD terminals, of which 12,000 were mobile phones and 59,800 were data cards. Many insiders point out that TD data cards have a very fast wireless network speed with a higher customer satisfaction record.
