Mobile handset maker Motorola, Inc. (MOT: News ) said Tuesday that it opened M-Commerce Laboratory in Beijing, China, in collaboration with China International Electronic Commerce Center, or CIECC, an information development agency operating under China's Ministry of Commerce.
With the laboratory, Motorola and its partners would be able to develop the ecosystem and pre-integrate and validate the solution prior to commercial deployments in China. The company noted that the M-Commerce laboratory will facilitate research and commercialization of mobile applications, mobile payment and security, and enterprise mobile commerce application.
The laboratory's opening was attended by Jiang Yaoping, vice minister of Commerce, Liu Junsheng, general director of CIECC, and Ruey-Bin Kao, president of Motorola China.
Liu Junsheng, general director of CIECC said, "Our goal is to develop key enablers, nurture the M-Commerce practice and business environment, and provide services to help enterprises mobilize their business. The establishment of M-Commerce Laboratory will play a vital role in facilitating mobile commerce development in China."
MOT closed Tuesday's regular trading session at $4.27, up $0.16 or 3.89%, on a volume of 23 million shares.
