China Telecom, which recently acquired the CDMA business from China Unicom amid a government-initiated industrial restructuring, plans to set up 1,200 hotspots for the CDMA+Wi-Fi wireless networks in Wuhan, capital city of Hubei province, by the end of this year.
The Wuhan branch of the Chinese telecoms operator has completed the first phase construction of hotspots and currently has 637 hotspots in operation.
In line with the municipal government's plan of building Wuhan into a wireless city, China Telecom decided to add 643 new hotspots in the fourth quarter of 2008, which will boost the total number of hotspots in the city to 1,200 with over 3,000 access points by the end of this year.
