China Mobile Communications Corporation is developing its own mobile phone operating system and is to launch mobile phones with such operating systems soon, a China Mobile executive said in an opening statement.

Some corporations including Lenovo Group Ltd. (SEHK: 0992) will likely become manufacturers of these mobile phones, the executive added. They are specially customized products between Lenovo and China Mobile, the nation's largest mobile carrier, and have all embedded mobile services from the latter.

"In order to capture a slice of China's mobile Internet market, China Mobile must make a foray into the mobile phone operating system field," said Zhou Bin, an executive at the Research Institution of China Mobile.

China Mobile is believed to intend to lift its say in the mobile terminal arena and have a presence in the mobile Internet market ahead. That is certain to impose an impact on mobile phone makers.
