China Mobile to sign handset contract with Nokia

Updated:2008/11/18 14:20

China Mobile, the world's largest mobile service provider, said on Tuesday it will sign a contract with Nokia on Wednesday for the Finnish firm to supply dual band handsets next year compatible with both GSM and home grown TD-SCDMA networks in the mainland.

Chairman Wang Jianzhou told reporters that the company was also in talks with Motorola  and Sony-Ericsson on the supply of dual band handsets.

China Mobile will increase capital expenditure next year with focus on improving coverage in rural areas, an effort to compensate slower growth in cities, Wang added.
