Insiders close to China Telecom disclose that the telecom carrier is scheduled to launch 3 million mid- and high-end customized CDMA mobile phones this month. And it will attract new subscribers by giving away handsets and telephone fees.

China Telecom procured the 3 million CDMA mobile phones shortly after it purchased the CDMA networks and related assets from China Unicom for CNY 110 billion in this May in line with the national telecom industry restructuring led by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Li Wang, vice president of Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific, the biggest CMDA handset supplier of China Telecom, says that 70% of the 3 million handsets are provided by Yulong. And these products are expected to hit the market this month. These customized CDMA handsets will use the 189-prefixed telephone numbers. To spur sales, China Telecom will kick off much-hyped promotional activities.
