Motorola CDMA Equipment Replaced by Huawei in Beijing

Updated:2008/10/11 09:01

Tags:CDMA | Motorola

A source inside China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) reports that following the company's recent round of CDMA bidding, CDMA network construction in the Beijing region will be handled by Huawei, replacing Motorola, which had previously built the majority of the Beijing CDMA network.

The source says the change was motivated mainly by high service costs from previous suppliers.

Editor's Note: Domestic vendors ZTE and Huawei are rumored to have place first and second, respectively, in China Telecom's first round of CDMA equipment bidding. For more background, please see "Rumor: China Telecom to Combine First and Second Round Bidding", MD 10/07/08 issue.
