China Mobile Reveals "Three Nos" Plan for TD-SCDMA

Updated:2008/10/7 09:45

The president of China Mobile, Wang Jianzhou, recently revealed that the company will implement a "Three Nos" policy in the second phase of commercial trials for its TD-SCDMA network. The three no's include: No changes to phone numbers - subscribers who switch to the TD-SCDMA network will still be able to use their old 2G numbers; No SIM card changes - subscribers will be able to directly insert and use their current SIM cards in new TD-SCMA phones to gain access the TD-SCDMA network; No registration – subscribers will not need to visit a service counter to register when upgrading to TD-SCDMA, so long as the network successfully identifies those users who have switched to 3G.

Wang explained that China Mobile has recently chosen the cities of Tianjin, Xiamen and Shenzhen as locations for this pilot program. The trials will later be expanded to the ten cities with existing TD-SCDMA networks and the measures will eventually be adopted by all 28 cities in the planned second phase construction of China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network.
