Huawei touts new broadband products
Updated:2008/10/5 10:43
Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. introduced three new broadband products and extended its IPTIME (IP Transport Infrastructure for Multi-play Experience) offering at the Broadband World Forum Europe in Brussels. The announcements included the new 1.28-Tbit/sec OTN OptiX OSN 8800, OptiX OSN 1800, and 10G GPON prototype. "One of the bigger challenges that operators face today is to build converged ultra-broadband bearer networks that can give them the flexibility to quickly deploy a full range of services and at the same time significantly reduce the TCO (total cost of operation) of their entire networks," said Daniel Tang, vice president of Huawei Network Product Line. "Huawei's new products and IPTIME solution will help operators to better deploy a full service offering and enable subscribers to better experience the excitement and an extended choice of multi-play services." Touted as the first 1.28-Tbit/sec OSN next-generation switched WDM system in the industry, the OptiX OSN 8800 integrates 40G/100G, ROADM, OTN switching, and ASON/GMPLS to provide high-bandwidth transport and grooming. The OptiX OSN 1800 system is designed to support full-service access from 2 Mbits/sec to 10 Gbits/sec, simplifying and unifying the multiple carrier edge networks to effectively reduce TCO. Huawei says its 10G GPON prototype is the first standard 10G GPON system compliant with FSAN NGA; it has a data rate of 10 Gbits/sec downstream and 2.5 Gbits/sec upstream. It is designed to coexist with current GPON and be compatible with current 2.5-Gbit/sec optical distribution networks and platforms. The 10G GPON will ensure a smooth migration from current GPON and fully guarantee investment made in legacy networks while providing four times the bandwidth, Huawei asserts. Additionally, Huawei also extended its IPTIME line from mobile transport to an FMC-oriented unified bearer offering.
