Trapeze Networks , a Belden brand, reportedly has been awarded the Hangzhou WiFi  Metropolitan Area Network project, the largest WiFi MAN in China.

Seeking to help the city’s 6.5 million residents enjoy the convenience and reliability of nonstop Wireless networking, Trapeze Networks is deploying more than 3,000 access points in Hangzhou.
 
Trapeze Networks will install the WiFi network over three phases along with Commnet, a subsidiary of SOYEA Technology. In the first phase, WiFi access will be enabled along Hangzhou’s main ring roads, important scenic spots, the central business district and some residential areas. Phases two and three will extend that coverage to the entire Greater Hangzhou area. The whole of Hangzhou will be blanketed with WiFi connectivity by the end of 2009.
 
Seen as an important city in the Yangzi River Delta region of China, Hangzhou is southwest of Shanghai. Most of its 6.5 million residents live in eight metropolitan districts and have a high demand for communications, information exchange and wireless Internet access. The government of Hangzhou wanted to provide a convenient and flexible communications platform to the growing technological needs of the city. It formulated the “WiFi City” project to meet this challenge.
 
Officials at Trapeze the company is excited to be involved in Hangzhou WiFi City project. Using its complete range of so-called “Smart Mobile” products, the company says it will work on a city-level WiFi project in China for the first time in this project. Together, Trapeze Networks and Commnet will provide more than half of the WiFi products, solutions and services used in Hangzhou’s WiFi Metropolitan Area Network. Also, in phase one, more than 3,000 Trapeze Networks’ Mobility Point access points, together with Trapeze Networks’ Mobility Exchange WLAN controllers and RingMaster management software, will be deployed.
 
“With Trapeze Networks’ RingMaster network management tool, we can minutely design the position, quantity and configuration of access points according to number of users and bandwidth demands for a given coverage area. RingMaster will then generate an instructional layout for installation that not only saves manpower, but also ensures that new configurations can be done efficiently and on time,” said Tao Lu, Technical Director of Hangzhou Commnet. “Trapeze Networks’ Mobility Exchange controllers provide data encryption and manage RF security to ensure seamless wireless roaming.”
