6 Giants Share CDMA Orders in China

Six Chinese and foreign telecommunications equipment makers share about CNY 27 billion CDMA orders from China Telecom Corporation Ltd. (NYSE: CHA and SEHK: 0728), an expanding telecoms titan in China.

The orders cover a total of 81 major cites across the country, focusing upon east China and central China. The companies are Alcatel-Lucent, ZTE Corporation, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Nortel Networks Ltd., Motorola, and Samsung.

Nortel is estimated to keep a previous share of about 17%, Alcatel-Lucent close to 20%, Motorola around 18%, Huawei approximately 30%, and ZTE 15%, sources disclosed.

In addition, they once bid for CNY 12.1 billion worth of orders, the first CDMA equipment procurement in 2001 by China Unicom Ltd., anther telecoms giant under regrouping. At that time, ten companies totally took part in the bidding battle.
