TD-SCDMA regulates itself

Updated:2008/9/23 13:05

Chinese industry association TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance has seen its members sign a paper calling for fair and sporting competition, without the use of baseball bats and shin-kicking with steel-toed Doc Marten boots. The involved companies declared they'll stick to the rules layed down by themselves and will "promote a virtuous circle", reports ChinaTechNews. It appears that the King Arthur and his knights of the round table have tipped up in China's modern-day mobile communications business.

The rules say everyone will respect each others patents, work and cooperate with businesses up- and downstream, not throw tantrums and send out hit squads if a competitor grabs an order from under the nose and solve any arguments in a civilised and orderly manner by sitting down and talking with each other. Apparently, all member companies have said the rules are okay and now the council merely has to approve them sometime in the future.

Discussions on "The Principle on Anti-Vicious Competition among the Members of TDIA" formed part of the agenda of the 6th provisional council meeting in Peking, which was held on 11 September this year. TD-SCDMA is ready for take-off in China. The home-grown 3G mobile standard was developed back in the day by Chinese scientists from the Chinese Academy of Telecommunications Technology. Datang and Siemens. China thought it'd be a spiffing idea to develop a 3G standard and foster a network industry all of its own without having to shell out money to foreign companies and standards. TD-SCDMA networks are expected to start service by the end of this year.  A nation-wide test network is currently being rolled out by China Mobile.
