Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications networks for operators worldwide, announced that Pakistani telecom operator, Warid Telecom, has successfully deployed Pakistan's first solar powered BTS site using Huawei's Solar Powered Macro Base Station (BTS).

Huawei said in a statement on its website that the eco-friendly Solar Powered Macro BTS allows the Pakistani telecom operator to extend its network to the remote regions of the country, where access to the electricity grid is so limited.

Warid Telecom's selection of Huawei's Solar Powered BTS was mainly due to the latter's commitment to reducing power consumption and environmental impact of its telecoms equipment through technology innovation. The non-hybrid site is 100% powered on solar energy, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution, both of which is harmful to the local environment.

The solution, provided by Huawei, is also able to significantly reduce pressure on Pakistan's overall energy supply, which further benefits the environment, said the Chinese company.

Huawei has introduced renewable energy solutions for mobile communication sites, such as solar solutions, solar and wind hybrid solutions, solar and diesel hybrid solutions, according the company's website.
