China Unicom, which expects to win a 3G license after the expected October closing of its merging with China Netcom, plans to launch service in 2009 and become the top 3G mobile provider in the country. "We are determined to be number one. We should get WCDMA, the most mature standard," said Zuo Xunsheng, chairman and CEO of fixed-line telecom China Netcom.
