China Unicom said Monday it expects its third-generation mobile services to be profitable two years after their launch, though it hasn't said when it will start offering 3G.
China Unicom said the large capital investment in its 3G network would weigh on profitability in the near term.
The company said earlier this month it planned to invest CNY100 billion in third-generation mobile services during 2009-2010 and aims to capture a third of China's 3G market.
