During the Beijing Olympics, the city will offer free wireless Internet connectivity service. And it will charge a monthly subscription fee of CNY 80 after the Olympics.
At the moment, the subscription fee for seven months' wireless Internet access service of China Unicom's CDMA is CNY 620, and CNY 660 for six months of China Mobile's GPRS.
Besides Beijing, other nine cities in China will set up their urban wireless networks. They include Tianjin, Qingdao, Wuhan, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Yangzhou.
CECT-Chinacom Communications Company Limited, the builder of the wireless networks in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, says that Beijing is enjoying the biggest urban wireless network in China, which covers a total area of 100 square kilometers. And it is scheduled to cover all areas of the city by 2010.
An expert from CECT-Chinacom Communications discloses that the prime cost of the company is to rent the band width of telecom carriers. The cost is about CNY 200 million.
