A source with knowledge of the situation says China Telecom is preparing to roll out Wi-Fi terminals, with ZTE and other manufacturers providing sample products.
China Telecom's domestic Wi-Fi network project was first activated during H1 of this year, allowing users to freely roam between several candidate cities, with international Wi-Fi roaming and unified verification systems completed in March.
In the first phase of the project, China Telecom invested RMB 200 mln into Wi-Fi. H3C claims to have received 40% of this in exchange for providing 40,000 access points. The network uses 802.11g throughout, with a theoretical bandwidth of 54Mbps and an empirical bandwidth of 20Mbps.
