China Mobile, which is expected to operate 3G services under the homegrown TD-SCDMA platform, has opened a tender for 40,000 units of mobile TV-equipped TD-SCDMA handsets, the official Shanghai Securities News reported, citing sources close to the matter.

The report said the mobile TVs will operate under the China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting (CMMB) standard.

Mobile phone manufacturers including Lenovo, ZTE, Samsung and Coolpad have reportedly joined the tender.
