China Mobile Group, which has been entrusted with the commercial rollout of China's homegrown TD-SCDMA third-generation mobile phone technology, has joined the TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance.
The alliance said China Mobile is the first telecom operator to join.
State-owned China National Postal and Telecommunications Appliances Corp (PTAC), the country's largest mobile phone distributor, also joined the alliance, a statement said.
MediaTek Inc, a Taiwan semiconductor company focused on wireless communications, and Dopod Corp, a mainland smart-phone manufacturer, were also reported to have joined.
Established in 2002, the TD-SCDMA Alliance is an industrial association whose members comprise operators, manufacturers, research & development entities and distributors.
