China Unicom<600050><762><CHU>, the second largest wireless telecom operator in the country, announced its Beijing branch will officially launch roaming GPRS service in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to GSM post-pay users.
Newspaper reports said Hong Kong and Taiwan have become the first two regions where the service has been launched. China Unicom's GPRS services in Hong Kong and Taiwan provide GSM post-pay users services that include WAP, mobile phone downloads and multimedia messaging.
In addition, users who subscribe international roaming service can also use roaming GPRS service. It is easy for customers to apply to open or cancel international roaming service at any time they want, says the company.
Currently, international roaming GPRS service is charged by quantum of data downloaded or uploaded. Charges for the service in Hong Kong and Taiwan are at RMB 0.02 and RMB 0.05 per kilobyte respectively.
