Fujitsu (China) Holdings will be supplying SPARC Enterprise UNIX servers, ETERNUS storage equipment, and PRIMECLUSTER middleware for the core information system of China Mobile<941><CHL>, the country's largest mobile phone carrier, according to an announcement made by Fujitsu yesterday.
Under the agreement, Fujitsu will supply 200 SPARC Enterprise UNIX servers, including its top-of-the-line M9000 as well as mid-range models, 30 units of its storage equipment, primarily consisting of the high-end ETERNUS8000 model 2100, and one installation of its PRIMECLUSTER middleware package to the Chinese carrier, with a total value of ¥2 billion.
The deal is part of the Chinese carrier's scheme of expanding its IT system and building an advanced network infrastructure across the country. The core information system is scheduled to be deployed in all 31 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions in mainland China over the next five months.
Linkage Technology Co Ltd, the second largest software company in China, reportedly joined hands with the Japanese company for the bid. Fujitsu plans to work with Linage to build systems for additional customers to expand their businesses.
China Mobile announced earlier it added 7.491 million new subscribers in May, bringing its overall subscribers to 407.039 million.
