The next-generation 3G cellular system solution T3G7208 from T3G Technology Co. Ltd and NXP Semiconductors Co. Ltd has officially been released in the China market. The solution works with multimode TD-SCDMA/EDGE mobile phones.

Nexperia cellular system solution T3G7208 powers the Samsung SGH-L288 handset, a 3G network phone with a 2MP camera that offers video telephony and data communication at 384kbps downlink and 128kbps uplink. Samsung has provided special edition T3G7208 TD-SCDMA phones with push-to-talk (PTT) function to members of the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee.

Senior vice president and general manager of cellular business at NXP Semiconductor Dan Rabinovitsj said that the commercial availability of Samsung’s TD-SCDMA phone is testament to NXP’s commitment to providing innovative handset solutions for specific market requirements.

The T3G7208 technology has multimedia applications such as video and connectivity. Having the industry’s highest data rate and ultra-low power consumption, it also allows voice automatic handover of multimode TD-SCDMA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE in a handset. This automatic handover has been validated on T3G’s TD-SCDMA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE dual-mode handset reference design platform in multiple network environments built by all major infrastructure vendors in mainland China.

T3G CEO Johan Pross said that his company has been a leader in the development of TD-SCDMA terminal technologies since the standard was in its infancy. He added that T3G has developed a powerful and efficient platform in ultra-small form factor devices that supports optimal 3G performance and ultra-low power consumption.

TD-SCDMA services are currently being tested commercially across mainland China’s eight cities, including Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai.
