Telefonica S. A., a Madrid-headquartered leading telecommunications carrier, plans to purchase equipments worth as much as EUR 1 billion in China with a strong double-digit growth telecom market.
The Spanish telecom operator plans to purchase equipments in 10 categories in China, said the company at an industry conference held by China Netcom<906><CN>, in which Telefonica has a stake. And the purchase volume in the country is expected to account for 10% of its global procurement volume in near term.
This is the largest purchase plan that a foreign telecom company ever made in China, as Telefonica attaches great importance to the dynamic and innovative market. It also plans to establish a test center in China to facilitate the purchasing process.
The company said enterprises from both countries will benefit from the purchase plan, especially those who have already been in good relationship with Telefonica, such as Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. It will also work closely with its strategic partner China Netcom on more joint purchase programs in future.
