China Mobile Group, parent of Hong Kong-listed China Mobile Ltd, said it has launched a second round of tenders for TD-SCDMA mobile phone handsets and data cards, projecting the purchase of a combined 100,000 units of both products.
In a statement on the company's web site, China Mobile said bidders should have TD-SCDMA handset production licenses from the Industry and Informatization Ministry.
According to the ministry over 30 mobile phone manufacturers currently have such licenses.
China Mobile completed its first round of TD-SCDMA procurement in January, purchasing 30,000 handsets.
The company is expected to operate a third-generation mobile network using China's homegrown TD-SCDMA technology.
