China Telecom Invests CNY300 Million in IoT

Updated:2017/5/16 16:01

China Telecom recently said it will hang out CNY300 million in subsidies to support IoT, which focused on NB-IoT and CAT1 products. In addition, it noted that 4G network coverage will keep up with the level of CDMA due to the 800M spectrum refarming for LTE use, for which China Telecom is expected to comprehensively construct the VoLTE and NB-IoT business network by the end of June.

China's three state-run telecom operators have speeded up the layout of IoT to seize the initiative while one of them, China Telecom, has made breakthroughs in building world's leading NB-IoT - it first published the enterprise standards (V1.0) for NB-IoT and started NB-IoT large-scale field tests in seven Chinese provinces in January this year.

Industry insiders pointed out with the 800M LTE deployments, China Telecom is supposed to be the first operator with NB-IoT large-scale commercial capability in China.

In terms of the subsidies, CNY200 million is direct subsidies for IoT key module products including CAT1 single-mode products and NB-IoT products while the rest 100 million renminbi will be given to IoT key projects.

China Telecom also proposed a development goal of over 25 million net adds in IoT user base in 2017.
