ITU Telecom Africa 2008 Expo Begins May 12

African Ministers in charge of telecommunica-tions, telecoms regulators, top government officials, CEOs of telecoms companies, equipment manufacturers and vendors, telecoms financing institutions, and thousands of participants from all parts of the world are billed to gather at the International Exhibition and Convention Centre, Cairo, Egypt, when the International Telecommunications Union, ITU-organised Telecom Africa Exhibitions and Forum 2008 kicks off on May 12, 2008.
This is the biggest ICT expo in Africa, encompassing exhibition and forum, and will provide a major networking platform for Africa''s top ICT personalities and institutions to focus on the core issues relating to ICT expansion across the region. According to ITU, the theme of Telecom Africa 2008 is "ICTs in Africa: A Continent on the Move". The theme is directed at reviewing the wealth of opportunities available in the African region, as well as the challenges. The forum sessions will cover topics such as public-private partnerships, entrepreneurial success stories, capacity building and cybersecurity. The Nigerian delegation to Telecom Africa 2008, will be led by the minister of Information and Communications, Mr. John Odey, and the minister of State for Information and Communications, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande. The delegation will include other top government officials like the chairman of the Board of Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Alhaji Ahmed Joda, the executive vice chairman of the NCC, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, and chief executives of key public and private companies in Nigeria. Leading players and international companies are billed to showcase their products and services at the exhibition part of the expo. Global telecom equipment manufacturers billed to exhibit products at the event include Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks Arabsat, Etisalat, Huawei Technologies, Qualcomm, ZTE, Intelsat, Eutelsat, among many other players from different parts of the world. Nigeria is one of the five countries, with dedicated national pavilion at the event. The Nigerian pavilion will showcase myriads of the nation''s efforts and success stories in telecoms development, and the support which the sector has given to other sectors of the economy. The pavilion will also provide an opportunity for Nigerian public institutions and private sector companies to demonstrate their strengths to the global attendees to the telecoms summit. A Nigerian mobile phone operator has confirmed its participation as an exhibitor to be located in the Nigerian pavilion. Some Nigerian banks and ICT firms have also given indications of their preparations to exhibit at the Nigerian pavilion. Source:leadershipnigeria |
