Google Inc, whose Internet search market share rose from 17 to 26 per cent, is expecting to process more web queries via mobile phones than computers in China by 2011 with the aid of
China Mobile.
The company is expecting its mobile-search traffic to multiply in some areas faster than it would its computer-search traffic. In addition to leading in Chinese wireless searches after gaining exclusive rights to process queries from China Mobile customers, it is also developing an operating system for mobile phones.
Baidu, which has cornered a search market share of 60 percent is said to offer wireless search services to China Netcom Group, the second largest fixed line group in the country after the government issues licenses for faster
3G phone services. Fixed-line operators such as China Telecom and China Netcom have applied for 3G permits to enter the fast-growing wireless market, media reports.
While Google may be able to catch up, as long as Baidu keeps innovating, it may not happen anytime soon.
