Pipeline Wireless Receives FCC Nationwide WiMAX License
Updated:2008/4/9 10:59
Boston based Pipeline Wireless says that it has been granted a nationwide WiMAX license covering the entire USA in the newly released 3.65 GHz band (3650-3700 MHz). Pipeline Wireless currently offers Internet access to businesses in the greater Boston, Fall River and New Bedford, Mass. markets.
Pipeline Wireless, which covers nearly 2,100 square miles of Eastern Massachusetts, expects to be fully WiMAX compliant in about 60 days. The company''s FCC license will give Pipeline Wireless the ability to provide high-bandwidth services over a quasi-licensed frequency. The company says that this reduces the possibility of interference, provides higher link budgets, and allows the company to offer a no-truck-roll installation to its customers, thereby lowering installation costs. "As a leading wireless network provider, Pipeline Wireless will be able to broaden our service offerings and our customers will reap the benefits of utilizing WiMAX technology," said Michael Daly, President and CEO, Pipeline Wireless. "Our application was approved and we are excited to deploy WiMAX technology in our coverage area." With the FCC license in its portfolio, Pipeline Wireless is now poised to offer its multipoint, multi-megabit services to customers in near-line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight situations, due to the lower frequencies used in 3.65GHz WiMAX deployments. This ability is a clear differentiator between Pipeline Wireless and most of the area''s smaller wireless providers, which don''t have the capability to offer WiMAX due to its cost and complexity, particularly in highly congested RF areas.
