Baidu.com, the leading Chinese language Internet search provider, has partnered with Chinese white goods giant Qingdao Haier<600690>, to jointly promote online media television services.

Under the terms of agreement, Baidu will provide Internet services and technology support to Haier''s online television scheme, which enables Chinese television users to access Baidu''s services with a remote control, sources said.

As part of its expansion plan, Baidu has also cooperated with Nokia to put Baidu''s search as a built-in service in Nokia''s handset models since March 2006, with aims to extend its search services through various kinds of new devices, including TVs, handsets and wireless networks, fixed-line phones.

"We are not satisfied with providing search services only and we want to attend to the product and business model design with the partners," Baidu vice president Shen Haoyu said.

Baidu, which now occupies about 70% of China''s online search market, plans to kick off online auctions and phone-based search services this year, according to sources.
