Updated:2008/3/27 13:24

Initial statistics for 2007 on the number of Chinese IPTV subscribers shows that by the end of 2007, Shanghai had 240,000 IPTV subscribers and that after large-scale promotion in January, this figure is now at 300,000 - the highest in the country. 2007 year-end statistics for other parts of the country, including the province/city, number of IPTV households, and operator (i.e. China Netcom, China Telecom, or Hangzhou Huashu) were as follows:

Henan Province - Netcom - 200,000
Heilongjiang Province - Netcom - 120,000
Hangzhou (Hangzhou Huashu + Hangzhou Netcom) - 250,000
Anhui Province - Telecom - 30,000
Guangdong Province - Telecom - 75,000
Fujian Province - Telecom - 105,000
Zhejiang Province - Telecom - 63,000
Sichuan Province - Telecom - 10,000
Jiangsu Province - Telecom - 35,000Yunnan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Ningxia provinces and Shenyang city - 50,000
Other - 30,000

Total - 1,208,000

The figures include commercial users (as in Heilongjiang and Shanghai), trial commercial users (as in Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang), those started under the name of "Communist Party building projects" and then expanded to common users (such as in Henan, Anhui, Yunnan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Ningxia and Shenyang), and Hangzhou Huashu''s dual-mode cable/IPTV interactive service.

Currently, over 90% of provinces in mainland China have IPTV systems. However, coverage is not as complete in some provinces as in others, and some provinces are still undergoing trials before commercializing the service.
