Shanghai Leads IPTV Uptake

Initial statistics for 2007 on the number of Chinese IPTV subscribers shows that by the end of 2007, Shanghai had 240,000 IPTV subscribers and that after large-scale promotion in January, this figure is now at 300,000 - the highest in the country. 2007 year-end statistics for other parts of the country, including the province/city, number of IPTV households, and operator (i.e. China Netcom, China Telecom, or Hangzhou Huashu) were as follows:
Henan Province - Netcom - 200,000 Heilongjiang Province - Netcom - 120,000 Hangzhou (Hangzhou Huashu + Hangzhou Netcom) - 250,000 Anhui Province - Telecom - 30,000 Guangdong Province - Telecom - 75,000 Fujian Province - Telecom - 105,000 Zhejiang Province - Telecom - 63,000 Sichuan Province - Telecom - 10,000 Jiangsu Province - Telecom - 35,000Yunnan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Ningxia provinces and Shenyang city - 50,000 Other - 30,000 Total - 1,208,000 The figures include commercial users (as in Heilongjiang and Shanghai), trial commercial users (as in Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang), those started under the name of "Communist Party building projects" and then expanded to common users (such as in Henan, Anhui, Yunnan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Ningxia and Shenyang), and Hangzhou Huashu''s dual-mode cable/IPTV interactive service. Currently, over 90% of provinces in mainland China have IPTV systems.
