Orange France, SFR to re-use 900MHz spectrum for UMTS

Updated:2008/2/28 10:52

French telecommunication regulator Arcep has authorised Orange France and SFR to deploy UMTS services over frequencies until now reserved for the 900 MHz GSM network. The decision will allow the network operators to increase UMTS coverage to nearly the entire population. The country''s third operator, Bouygues Telecom, is smaller and did not ask to re-use the frequencies. If a fourth mobile operator is licensed, it will be able to do so.
