Cablevision and Telmex are both carrying out separate trials into the possibility of rolling out wireless internet in cities in Mexico, reports El Universal. Cablevision started trialling Metro
WiFi technology in December in Polanco while Telmex is trialling internet in public places like restaurants and hotels in Lomax using
WiMAX technology. Cablevision''s managing director Jean Paul Broc Haro said his company would evaluate the results of the trial in March. The company could then decide to extend the service to the whole city, which would cost USD 3,000 since 400 antennas would be needed. Cablevision will then also evaluate whether to use Metro WiFi or WiMax.
