The International Telecommunication Union (
ITU) has approved South Korea''s
Wibro technology as the sixth global standard for
3G communications, Korean daily the Chosun Ilbo writes. The ITU approved the technology at the 2007 Radiocommunication Assembly. China earlier opposed the adoption of Wibro as it worries that it would replace its own TD-SCDMA technology, but the country finally approved on the condition its reservations are expressed in the resolution. Germany also opposed the adoption initially but agreed eventually asking Korea to address technical glitches as soon as possible.
