African government officials are meeting with Huawei Technologies to discuss ways in which Africa can
bridge the digital divide.
The forum, which is part of the 2007 Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank Group in Shanghai, China, is being attended by numerous officials, including the Kenyan finance minister and African Development Bank executives.
Li Jinge, senior vice president of Huawei, said that his company "is pleased to have had the opportunity to strongly contribute to the telecommunications infrastructure in Africa and we look forward to working closely with the African Development Bank Group."
"Huawei will continue to increase its investment in Africa to promote China-Africa cooperation and interaction on telecommunications, so that the two countries will continue to grow together providing a brighter future for the people of Africa," he said.
Internet World Stats calculates that, despite 14.2 per cent of the world''s population being African, only three per cent of all internet users live in Africa.
