US top six film companies will form partnerships with Shanghai Media Group to spread their wings in the Chinese market via
IPTV business.
BesTV, IPTV operation under the media group, has basically concluded negotiations over copyright purchase with the six companies, including Sony/Columbia, 20th Century Fox, Disney/Buena
Vista, Warner Bros., Paramount and Universal. These movie giants will supply huge amounts of films to Chinese IPTV users as late as the first quarter next year accordingly,
SMG officials said.
People familiar with the matter stressed that the Chinese users will be able to enjoy new movies around a month after they are projected in the US theatres. Domestic TV stations have been buying copyrights from foreign movie producers, but this is the first time a home company launches an all-round cooperation with the top six companies.
In addition to copyrights, these companies will share revenues from
VOD in IPTV system as well as cinema advertising.
