China has already registered 214 patents related to TD-SCDMA in the patent pool of the National Bureau of Statistics of China, according to a recent report made by Norson, a famed domestic telecom consulting service provider.

Developed by China on its own, the TD-SCDMA is one of the three accepted standards applied to the third-generation telecommunications (3G) in the world, along with WCDMA and CDMA2000. It is adopted in the imminent commercial use of the country''s 3G operations.

In the possession of the key TD-SCDMA patents, Datang Telecom Technology and Industry Group, the initial developer of the TD-SCDMA technologies, owns a proportion of 12.2%, and the nation''s other two leading telecom equipments makers, Huawei and ZTE, respectively have a portion of 10.1% and 7.4%.

Industry analysts say there are far more companies in the country which are involved in TD-SCDMA-related research and development, and their combined proportion of the TD-SCDMA patents possession is expected to reach 30%.
