Co-construction and sharing: new commercial civilization of the Internet era

Updated:2015/12/8 10:48

In the recently held Sina Kirin Forum 2015, Wang Jianzhou, the president of China Association for Public Companies and former chairman of China Mobile, said that the industrial stage is emphasized by competition and creating of the value chain, it can be said that the market is just like the battlefield; however, in the Internet era, coexistence and sharing is the mainstream.

He took the mobile communication industry as an example in his speech. In the 2G era, CDMA and GSM were in fierce competition and fully incompatible with each other. In the 3G era, the three systems, WCDMA, CDMA and TD-SCDMA, were basically still incompatible with each other.

However, this dilemma changed in the 4G era, consumers can no longer tolerate this situation and people's dependence on the Internet has increased with its development. As a result, TD-LTE and LTE-FDD achieve mutual integration, people can travel around the world with only one mobile phone, which is just the change that the Internet has brought to the communication industry.

It will go one step further in the 5G era, which is characterized by high speed, large capacity and low latency. In addition to the technologies, another main reason for the high speed is the need for large frequencies. In the 3G era, an operator only needs 20MHz frequency bands to build a network, but it needs 200MHz in the 4G era. The question is where we can get the 200MHz frequency bands, one way is to explore new frequency bands, the other is sharing of the existing resources, therefore, sharing is very important in the new stage.

"The trend of network architecture is to reduce the number of physical networks, sharing of the networks does not prevent competition and differentiation of the operators, because we can define the network by software, namely realize virtualization of the network functions. Therefore, I believe that sharing will become more and more important, which is the biggest difference of the new commercial civilization with that of the industrial era," he said.
