SMIC co-founded the integrated circuit new technology R&D company with Huawei and Qualcomm

Yesterday, SMIC, Huawei, IMEC and Qualcomm held the signing ceremony in the Great Hall of the people, and announced that they would make a joint investment in the SMIC integrated circuit technology research and development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., developing the next generation CMOS technologies and building a most advanced IC research and development platform in China.

The new company is a holding company by the SMIC, while Huawei, Qualcomm and IMEC take a part of the shares. The CEO and Chairman of SMIC Dr. Qiu Ciyun serves as legal representative while the vice president of SMIC Yu Shaofeng serves as the general manager. In the first stage, the R&D will focus on the development of 14nm CMOS technologies.

This is a great breakthrough in the cooperation of domestic and international semiconductor industry, which integrated the upstream and downstream advantageous resources in the IC industry, it will promote the leap-type development of China's IC industry and speed up to catch up with the pace of international leaders.
