China UnionPay announced on Tuesday that it had expanded its mobile pay trial program, covering three provinces -- Shandong, Hunan and Sichuan -- plus three cities: Shanghai, Ningbo, and Shenzhen, Xinhuanet reported.
The new payment business on the platform of mobile phones will provide all online services that bank cards offer, such as transfer, consumption and inquiry functions. The trial program will also upgrade relevant facilities and technologies, according to the report.
China UnionPay initiated its mobile pay trial program with about 20 commercial banks and mobile telecom operators in 2008.
